Andy Hopkins

Andy Hopkins

Andy Hopkins graduated with a Bachelor of Civil Engineering before completing 6 years working for Contractors and Consulting Engineers in the UK on major building and motorway widening projects. In 1996, he moved to New Zealand to play a season for Teachers Eastern RFC. Andy fell in love with the country and decided to stay and commence a career in recruitment, completing his Diploma in Human Consulting Management in 1999 and securing his Kiwi passport in the same year.

Since 1996, Andy has specialised as a recruiter within the technical professional disciplines and after 12 years of working for locally owned recruiters and managing the New Zealand operations of a global recruitment company, Andy and Phil Ponder decided to set up Catalyst Recruitment.

Andy has been personally responsible for assisting over 200 families in their migration to New Zealand and due to his depth of experience and industry knowledge, he is considered as a leader within the technical recruitment field in our country.

Phil Ponder

Phil Ponder

Phil started his career as a PE Teacher but after 8 years looked for a more challenging environment to direct his energies. Working with a multi-national recruitment company in the UK gave him great exposure to the industry and a desire to make recruitment his chosen profession.

Since 2005 Phil has worked within the Civil Construction sector, focusing mainly on contracting companies throughout New Zealand. Since the creation of Catalyst he has broadened his focus to include Construction Contractors, PQS and Project Management companies.

Phil has built his recruitment practice around a few simple philosophies; honesty, trust and hard work. It is thanks to these that Phil continues to work closely with decision makers within these sectors who know they are getting a truly professional service in line with their expectations.

Outside of work Phil is happily married to Bronwyn and enjoys the opportunity to relax and enjoy the beach, socialising with friends and playing over 35’s rugby (when he’s not injured)!
