Lead Major Civil Infrastructure Projects with a Growing Industry Leader
A leading civil contractor is entering an exciting period of sustained growth and expansion and is seeking an experienced Senior Civil Quantity Surveyor to join its Auckland-based team. This is a rare opportunity to take on a key commercial leadership role within a highly respected contractor delivering some of New Zealand’s most significant infrastructure projects across the water, marine, and structural sectors. Working alongside experienced operational and commercial professionals, you will play a critical role in protecting project profitability, driving commercial performance, mentoring team members, and contributing to the continued growth of the business.
The Opportunity
As a Senior Civil Quantity Surveyor, you will be involved across a diverse portfolio of complex civil infrastructure projects, providing commercial leadership from project commencement through to final account settlement.
You will be responsible for:
- Managing all commercial and contractual aspects of major civil projects
- Preparing and administering subcontract packages
- Cost forecasting, budgeting, and financial reporting
- Managing project variations, claims, and contractual correspondence
- Identifying commercial risks and opportunities
- Negotiating with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors
- Supporting project teams to maximise commercial outcomes
- Mentoring and developing junior commercial staff
- Contributing to strategic commercial decision-making across the business
To be successful in this role you will possess:
- Significant experience as a Quantity Surveyor within the civil construction sector
- Proven expertise working on heavy civil projects including water infrastructure, marine works, bridges, structures, or large-scale infrastructure projects
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related discipline
- Strong knowledge of NZS and civil construction contracts
- Excellent commercial acumen and negotiation skills
- Experience managing complex subcontractor and supplier relationships
- Strong leadership and stakeholder management capabilities
- A proactive, solutions-focused approach and the ability to influence outcomes
