The civil and infrastructure sectors in New Zealand are getting busier resulting in a need for experienced and professional engineers of all levels. This major civil contractor operates throughout the country and currently boasts involvement in a number of highly prestigious major projects. Due to internal promotion there are in immediate need of a Project Director to take charge of one of those projects currently in the preconstruction stage.

The two-year project is a joint venture with a value of over $150 million. Based in Auckland, the Project Director will head up the project and will report to the General Manager and Board throughout the duration. This is a very high profile project with stringent deadlines and so they are looking for an experienced Project Director who can hit the ground running and complete the project successfully.

Ideally the bulk of your experience will have been with a civil and infrastructure contractor but any client based experience will also be beneficial. The nature of your project experience can be varied and include drainage, structures, earthworks, marine, rail etc. but it’s important that these projects have had a value in the region of $100 million or above. Due to the nature of the project it is essential that you have worked previously as part of a joint venture/partnership project in a managerial position. Successfully bringing two teams from separate major contractors together is likely to be the biggest challenge in this role and the projects outcome will be dependent on you making it work.

The majority of the management team are already in place and bring with them a range of experience in the major projects sector which when combined with your own will result in a winning formula. Your experience as a Project Director will be focused on bringing together the project experience of the joint venture team to complete client’s vision on time and to budget. Other required attributes include,

  • A tertiary qualification or equivalent in civil engineering, project management or other industry related subject
  • Proven joint venture/partnership project experience at a management level
  • A track record of successful project delivery
  • Excellent contractual and commercial acumen
  • The ability to legally work in New Zealand, including New Zealand or Australian resident/citizen, or a current New Zealand work visa

With the project already in the preconstruction phase this is an urgent position to fill, hence the specific need for a New Zealand or Australian resident/citizen or someone with a current New Zealand work visa. The salary package including vehicle and relocation assistance is excellent and a true reflection of the quality of candidate required to fill this position. If your interest has been piqued by this role then I need to hear from you as soon as possible.
