Urgent Opportunity | Leading Civil & Infrastructure Contractor
Are you a qualified and experienced Heavy Plant Mechanic looking for a new challenge in an incredible location? We are urgently seeking a Head Mechanic to join a leading civil and infrastructure contractor in St Maarten, Caribbean. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced mechanic to take responsibility for a busy workshop and a substantial fleet of construction and infrastructure plant.
As Head Mechanic, you will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the workshop, ensuring the company’s plant and equipment is maintained, serviced and repaired to a high standard. You will be working with a wide range of heavy construction and infrastructure equipment, diagnosing faults, managing repairs and preventative maintenance, and keeping plant operational and productive.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Running and managing the workshop and mechanical team
- Maintaining and repairing heavy construction and infrastructure plant
- Diagnosing mechanical and hydraulic faults
- Planning and managing preventative maintenance programmes
- Ensuring equipment is safe, reliable and available when required
- Managing parts, servicing and workshop requirements
- Supporting site teams with mechanical issues and breakdowns
- Maintaining accurate maintenance and repair records
- Providing technical leadership and guidance to mechanics and operators
We are looking for someone who is hands-on, technically strong and confident running a workshop. You should have:
- Formal mechanical qualifications or equivalent experience
- Extensive experience working on heavy construction plant
- Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills
- Experience with hydraulic and diesel systems
- Previous workshop leadership or supervisory experience
- The ability to manage maintenance schedules and prioritise breakdowns
- Excellent practical problem-solving skills
- A strong focus on health, safety and equipment reliability
Experience with civil construction, earthmoving, road construction or infrastructure plant would be highly advantageous.
